There are three ways to get from Monteverde to La Fortuna
  • Public bus from Monteverde (7:00 a.m.) with change in Tilaran (1:00 p.m.) takes 8 hours
  • Rental car takes about 4 hours
Taxi - Boat Taxi only takes aprox. 3 hours!
  • Departure time from Monteverde: 8:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m.
  • Departure time from La Fortuna: 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
We will start this tour with our Minibus from Monteverde. It will be an hour and a half ride looking over the country side of the
Tilarán Mountain Range until we arrive at Rio Chiquito, where we will take a30 minute boat ride over the lake Arenal and then we will ride again another 45 minutes to your hotel at La Fortuna.
 
The boat has capacity for 40 persons and allows for a little birding around the edges of the lake where you will enjoy some of acuatic birds like the ringed kingfisher, the snowy egret, the great egret, the spotted sandpiper, the blue heron, and other tropical birds are abundant.
 
This route is also possible by horseback, Desafio is the only company to offer a ride along the lake that is safe year round.
