The buses are mainly in good conditions, especially for long journeys. This is the cheapest option in price and the recommended for backpackers or budget travelers who want to enjoy the costarrican views without the stress of driving.

Keep always the security measurements to prevent the lost of your things. Avoid showing valuable objects in the bus and keep closed, with padlock if possible, your luggage.
Route San José - Monteverde - San José
This is the main route to Monteverde. It also goes near many towns with interesting tourist attractions. The interamerican highway is in good conditions. It starts from San José, and continues to the General Cañas and Bernardo Soto highway, then San Ramón, Esparza, Barranca until the Sardinal cross. From there you start up a windy road 35 km to Monteverde.

Transmonteverde S.A. offers this service. Location: The office is located next to the Catholic Church of Santa Elena. The Puntarenas terminal is located in the main street outside of the San José Bus terminal.
Route: Departure from Monteverde to Lagarto at the Interamerican Highways, turn left to Chomes (Exit for passengers to Liberia or Nicaragua), following to the cross of Barranca (Exit for passengers to San José) and arriving in Puntarenas.
